EDUCATION

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology & Fine Arts at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1975. Following that, I attended Hahnemann Medical College, which is now Drexel University. There I received a master’s degree in Creative Arts Therapy (MCAT), with a focus on art psychotherapy. My thesis was a pilot study titled: The use of Complementary Colors in the Artwork of a Schizophrenic and Normal Population. Though unpublished, you may find my thesis in the graduate school library at Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA). Several years later I received a Post Masters Certification in Administration of the Social Services from Temple University.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

I have been in private practice since 1980, and my primary office is in Jenkintown, PA. While developing my practice, I was also a clinician at Friends Hospital (Philadelphia, PA) from 1978-1996), and at the University of Pennsylvania Health System from 1996-2000. In both facilities, I worked primarily as an art psychotherapist, though I also developed other programs involving diagnostic evaluations and teaching. In 1996 I became an associate clinician with James Coane, Psy.D, and I continue to affiliate with his practice. I am also affiliated with the Eating Disorders Treatment Center (Marlton, NJ), where I’ve served as a licensed professional counselor/art psychotherapist since 1999.

PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS

I became a board certified art psychotherapist through the Art Therapy Credentials Board in January 1997, and a registered art psychotherapist with the American Art Therapy Association in 1980 (registered #80-052). I’m also a credentialed professional member of the American Art Therapy Association.

AWARDS

In 1996, I was honored by the Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association and received their Honorary Life Member (HLM) Award. This award is granted to one individual annually, for outstanding contributions to the field of art therapy.

PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES

I am a professional, credentialed member of the American Art Therapy Association (1976 - present), the Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association (1976 - present), International Society for the Study of Dissociation (1985 - present), and National Eating Disorders Association (2004 - present).

PROFESSIONAL COMMITTEES AND APPOINTMENTS

I am an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Creative Arts in Therapy Department (1996 - present) at Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA), supervising graduate students “off site”. In the past I served as the Film/Video Editor for the journal ArTherapy (1994 – 1997), which is a publication of the American Art Therapy Association, Inc. From 1993 to the present, I’ve served as a reviewer of manuscripts for the journal ArTherapy (American Art Therapy Association, Inc.), and the Journal of Trauma & Dissociation (International Society for the Study of Dissociation). I was the treasurer of the Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association from (1979 – 1988), and also served on the newsletter committee.
